The HelpMeet Called Wife

And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” Genesis 2:18 (KJV)

After writing The Steward Called Husband, I got varying reactions and comments which made it necessary for me to write this article.

It is true that the husband’s role is to groom his wife to become all that she can be, it is equally true that it is a wife’s divine calling to help her husband.

“For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man” 1Cor11:8-9

The word “helpmeet” means “a perfectly fit helper”. The wife is by nature designed to be a suitable help to her husband. Wives are not ‘Oriaku’, an igbo word which loosely translates to “enjoyer of wealth” rather we are helpers who like the Proverbs 31 woman should make our husband the envy of others.

Wives are not help eats but help meets. They should be helpers in every sense of the word help. Your role as a wife is to help your husband not tearing him down. In all submission, a wife is to follow the leading of the husband as he follows God.  The gospel is there is no loss of dignity in subordination when it serves a higher purpose.

Like it is your husband’s duty to groom you, God made you a help meet to your husband so you can bolster him, making him more productive and efficient at whatever he chooses to do.

So, dear wife fulfill God’s plan by being the help meet your husband desperately needs. Remember, it is not good for your husband to be alone. He needs your help.
